Sensory Play Dough

One of the suggestions from our OT was to create a Sensory box for Meltdowns or when she just needs some space. She goes and sits in her room on her bed and simply "plays."

Its not always before the event happens, many times it is after - lots of tears, kicking walls and frustration and with gentle reminders "love, why don't you go and play with your special box." Her box has become something that helps us "ground" her again. She has a variety of things in her box - sensory bottles, fidget toys, lots of things she can count and sort into colours (one of her favourite things) and colouring in.

This is one of the recipes I use to create Sensory play options for Play dough to calm, help focus or relax my lill one. Quick easy and loads of Fun, plus with the benefits of Essential Oils which help immensly.

You can store in containers or simply snaplock bags. If I know she has had a hard day at school, I will actually get her to help make it with me, the whole process is calming.

My other children absolutely love to play with this dough.

Essential Oils that may help:

CALMING

Lavender

Vetiver

Frankincense

Balance

Serenity

UPLIFTING

Wild Organge

Citrus Bliss

Lime

Lemon

Peppermint

If your child has a gluten intolerance simply substitute with coconut flour or almond flour but you will need to add more than the recipe above. Still feels great!

So if you have time, a few ingredients and want to help a child focus, calm or relax, maybe make some Sensory Playdough.
