Ever wondered how they Minecraft can be used in School? or at Home to enhance or improve your child's learning.
Most parents believe its simply a game - which it is but with direction, support and some ingenuity it can be so much more. The game can help develop or deepen a child’s spacial awareness and skills. It also is good for social, cognitive, and emotional experiences which enhance your childs development. There are many platforms, focus groups and free lesson plans for parents and teachers to access.
Minecraft can be used to encourage reluctant readers and improve literacy. One particular school was reading the 13 Storey Treehouse by Andy Griffiths, to extend students they "built" the Minecraft VIrtual 13 Storey Treehouse as they read.
A High School which was studying The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins created the various Districts in Minecraft. I have seen various Math games using Minecraft as well as engineering challenges.
I have attached a poster which I created to demonstrate some of the benefits to gaming in particular Minecraft. All material is referenced for further reading and I will include links to various sites for ideas on "how to" utilise Minecraft to its full potential whether in home or at school.
