Vetiver is known as the “Oil of Tranquillity.” Vetiver has been used for thousands of centuries for treating fevers, joint problems, headaches, skin issues and boost energy. It has also been linked to increased libido and assisting those with sleep disorders.

In recent scientific studies it has been part of a longitudinal study along with Cedarwood and Lavender. Its properties assist children with anxiety, nervousness, Attention Deficit Disorder and Autism. A study by Dr Tony Friedman (2001) he found that Lavender increased performance by 53 percent, cedarwood essential oil increased performance by 83 percent and vetiver oil increased performance by 100 percent. The calming and relaxing effects of Vetiver assisted children with special needs. Vetiver maybe used to stimulate alertness and task performance (Velmurugan et al, 2014). Vetiver contains large amounts of antioxidants; a study completed by the Clemson University in 2005 showed vetiver possessed a strong free radical scavenging activities. This may sound like gibberish, but to use Saleh et al (2010) “Harmful effects of these reactive species (free radicals) include cellular damage to RNA, DNA, proteins and lipids. In humans several diseases including those connected with the heart, lung, and the eye are associated with the accumulation of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (ROS/RNS). Antioxidants in blood, cells, and tissue fluids play an important role in neutralizing the normal level of oxidative damage caused by these free radicals.”

Vetiver is an antiseptic and is cicatrisant, meaning it heals scars by promoting the regeneration of skin and tissue. Documented to help women's scaring/stretch marks after childbirth and Vetiver can be added to creams, oils and body soap.
Vetiver oil’s soothing and restorative attributes are also responsible for stimulating the immune system and supporting the nervous system. In a 2015 study found altered this neuronal activation from stress. Vetiver oil has the same impact as Diazepam, a medication that treats anxiety, muscle spasms, seizures and other medical conditions (Saiyudthong et al, 2015).
